Latest News at Hayle Community School

 20th April 2018

At the start of the Easter break, Hayle Academy teachers attended an INSET DAY with a primary focus on learning and teaching. They looked at effective feedback and how to embed ‘Hayle Academy Standards’. Teaching staff were able to attend three 30 minute break-out sessions led by members of staff. Each break-out provided participants the opportunity to take away practical strategies as well as the opportunity to share Hayle Academy good practice. The Teacher-led breakout sessions involved first researching a subject and then the opportunity to share their ideas and be challenged by members of the group. Feedback from the sessions was extremely positive: “I came away with (and was reminded of) practical strategies to use in my lessons… to prepare students for the paper 3 exam”. “Having time to discuss and share good practice was the most important…” “Smaller more focussed breakouts were really beneficial!” Some new approaches participants took away from the sessions included: • Thinking hard strategies • Classroom ideas to encourage independent learning • Challenge and complexity • Effective questioning • Bell tasks • Effective differentiation • PiXL classroom app • Ability to do more research on the information learnt
