Brass players start the festive season with a workshop and concert of Christmas songs. On Monday 27th November, six brass musicians from Hayle Academy were joined by younger players from local primary schools. Bodriggy, Penpol, St Erth, Gwinear and Connor Downs. Students from years 3 to 6 took part in a two hour workshop, which ended with a performance to their parents and friends. The students were led by their teacher; Mrs Kirsten Burden, who described the afternoon as “very productive”, and went on to add, “it was probably the best workshop we have held, and great to hear the older students balancing the sound of these enthusiastic beginners”. Members of the audience were treated to Christmas classics, such as: I wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day, Winter Wonderland and Rockin` Around The Christmas Tree. Lowenna and Connie from St Erth school enjoyed playing within a large ensemble and both added that “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer was the most fun song to play”. This was the fifth brass workshop to be held at Hayle Academy since 2015 and young players can look forward to the next one in the summer. Mr Graham, head of music, said, “it is great to see these young brass players flourishing under Kirsten and making music of this quality”. WORK
